RCBC Plaza

Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation Plaza, or simply RCBC Plaza, is located at the heart of Makati’s Central Business District (CBD). Being on an island lot, it is bounded by two major thoroughfares in the district—Sen. Gil Puyat (formerly Buendia) and Ayala Avenues. It has two towers, Yuchengco Tower (named after the owner) and Tower 2. Both are equipped with state of the art technology that is at par with the world’s best.

RCBC Plaza houses quite a number of facilities, namely: Yuchengco Museum, Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, Yuchengco Institute for Advanced Studies – DLSU, al fresco courtyard, seven levels of underground parking, and a 3-level podium featuring a chapel, a food court, a fitness center (with spa), a clinic, banks, convenience shops, and restaurants. The Canadian Embassy is also one of its numerous tenants.

RCBC Plaza is indeed the country’s biggest and most modern office development to date. Not only that, it prides itself for being the first to be granted an IT-zone status by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).

Bonifacio Stopover

Bonifacio Stopover, or simply Stopover, is one of the firsts within the Bonifacio Global City to have the highest concentration of establishments—restaurants in particular. There’s even a time when it was face-to-face with Market! Market!, with only the vast, plain grasslands (talahiban, in Filipino) between them. Additionally, the area is also among the very first few stops of the local bus line, the Fort Bus.

The notable restaurants, cafes, service, and retail outlets are: Jollibee, Chowking, Reyes Barbecue, Pizza Hut, Pancake House, Pasta Roni (newly opened), Gloria Jeans Coffee, Starbucks Coffee, 7-11, New South Star Drug,  BPI Express Bank, and last but not the least Shell (with its retail/convenience store arm, Select).

Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is the agency responsible for handling the financial security of all government employees—similar to its private sector counterpart, SSS. Its head office is in Pasay City, by the famous Manila Bay, and just a few steps away from the Philippine Senate.

The same warning applies as in the case of other government agencies. You have to be wary in doing transactions with total strangers pretending to be of great help. Most of the time these “user-friendly” people are illegal fixers, who can’t wait to pull a fast one on you.

Gilmore

Gilmore Avenue is a road that stretches from E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue to Aurora Avenue (where it becomes Granada). However, the place the name Gilmore usually refers to is the short strip of the avenue after Aurora Boulevard and before 1st Street where various computer stores are located.

Gilmore is the go-to place for computer parts and peripherals. Think of it as the Akihabara of the Philippines. Notable computer stores in Gilmore are PC Express, Villman, PC Options, PCHub, Foxcom, Dynamic PC, PCGilmore and many more (most of the shops have PC somewhere in their name).
