Erected in 1976 under the instruction of former First Lady Imelda Marcos, the Golden Mosque (or formally Masjid al-Dahab) and its completion was meant to coincide with the state visit of then Libyan premier, Muammar al-Gaddafi.
Masjid al-Dahab or the Golden Mosque, with its gilded central dome, is located at the heart of the city of Manila.
To commute to Golden Mosque – Quiapo:
- Go to Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene.
- Walk your way towards A. Bautista Street (formerly Barbosa Street). Use the Lacson Underpass to get you on the other side of Quezon Boulevard (still at Hidalgo Street).
- Continue walking until you reach the corner of Hidalgo and A. Bautista Streets.
- At the corner, turn right and walk your way along A. Bautista Street until you reach the farthest end (where Globo de Oro Street is, three blocks away).
- Once you’re at Globo de Oro Street, turn left and walk towards the end of the street. There you’ll see the entrance to the Golden Mosque.
